Follow-up Negotiation Skills Training
A negotiation skills training is organized from 3 to 8 December 2007, immediately prior to PSC4. It is a follow-up to the Bujumbura event in February 2006. The workshop is organized jointly with the Coordination Project of the Shared Vision Program (SVP). The training program follows the FAO Training Manual on Law, Negotiation, and Conflict Resolution for International Water Courses. The development of this package was guided by the evaluation of the Bujumbura event and the recommendations of the trainees.
Negotiation skills training will be integrated with international law and policy education. It is based on the core elements of the ‘principled negotiation approach’ developed by the Harvard Negotiation Project. The workshop will also use the “Food for Thought” scenario set - develop by the project - as case study in a number of advanced simulation exercises. Theoretical sessions will be alternated with simulation exercises.
Members of the Nile Technical Advisory Committee (Nile TAC), the project steering committee, and legal advisors from all Nile riparians have been invited.
The event will be facilitated by Dr. Richard Paisley and his team from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.
