Nile
DST Version 2007 Released
A
new version of the Nile Decision Support Tool (Nile-DST)
was released in July 2007. It includes the consolidated
River Simulation and Reservoir Operation module.
The
Nile-DST is a prototype software that models the entire
Nile system and serves to assess the trade-offs and consequences
of alternative cross-sectoral and basin-wide development
scenarios. It was released by the Nile Council of Ministers
for Water Affaires (Nile COM) in February 2003.
Under
a contract with the project, the Georgia Water Resources
Institute (GWRI) added new facilities to the Nile-DST, including:
•
potential hydropower facilities in Uganda i.e. Bujagali,
Karuma, Kalangala, South Ayago, and North Ayago
• Merowe Dam on the Main Nile in Sudan
• Roseires Dam on the Blue Nile in Sudan
• Tana-Beles Hydropower Facility in Ethiopia
GWRI
also prepared a description of the system structure of the
updated Nile-DST.
With
the 2007 release, and the completed Nile-DST training activities,
project output 1.3 “Internalize and Consolidate Nile-DST”
has now been finalized.
The
Nile-DST has been handed over to the SVP Water Resources
Planning and Management project, bases in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Possible further development of the system will be carried
out under this project.
