Hydrometric
Workshop in Mwanza
To
strengthen skills of counterpart staff in Tanzania in operating
sophisticated hydro-meteorological monitoring equipment,
the project is organizing a one-week hydrometric training
in Mwanza, at the shores of Lake Victoria. The workshop
will take place from 13 to 18 November 2006.
Mr.
Felix Sangale from Kenya and Mr. Jetty Masongole from Uganda
are facilitating the event.
The
project has invited hydrometric technicians from Bukoba,
Dar es Salaam, Musoma, and Mwanza to participate.
Theoretical
sessions are alternated with field exercises. The trainees
will practice discharge measurement with the high-tech Acoustic
Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) on Mbaragethi river. They
will also study electronic data acquisition systems, build
an Automatic Weather Stations, and get hand-on practice
in trouble shooting.
The
workshop covers the following instruments:
•
Automatic Weather Station from Campbell Scientific
• Pressure Transducer from Campbell Scientific
• Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) for flow
measurement
• Float Operated Shaft Encoder from Ott Hydrometrie
Additional
training is provided in data processing and quality control
in MS Access.
